Cardiovascular Anaesthesiology
In the Cardiovascular Anaesthesiology Research Team of the Inselspital Bern University Hospital, a dedicated group of medical investigators, scientific experts, study nurses, and research staff work run multiple studies using innovative research techniques to explore the impact of anaesthesia on the heart. Our goals are to enhance our understanding of anaesthesia on the heart and ultimately improving the safety of anaesthesia for patients with heart disease.
One of our key areas of research is to apply innovative imaging techniques in the perioperative setting. Utilizing advanced tools like cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging and perioperative transoesophageal echocardiography, combined with state-of-the-art post-processing software, we can obtain new insights into parameters such as myocardial function, myocardial oxygenation, myocardial injury and blood flow.
Our ongoing projects also extend beyond imaging and investigate techniques to refine glycaemic control during cardiac surgery. We also evaluate the clinical integration of new anaesthesia medications such as remimazolam.
We proudly mentor medical master’s thesis and dissertation students, empowering them with hands-on experience in these innovative techniques. By collaborating with leading local, national, and international research teams, we strive to drive the future of cardiovascular anaesthesiology research forward.
